## Biography

Jack Lord (born John Joseph Patrick Ryan) was an American actor who appeared in film, television and on Broadway. He played Felix Leiter in the first James Bond film, *Dr. No* (1962).

Lord is best known for his role as Detective Steve McGarrett in the CBS series *Hawaii Five-O*, which ran from 1968 to 1980. He also directed episodes of the programme and had earlier film roles including Coaley in *Man of the West* (1958).

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on 30 December 1920, Lord died on 21 January 1998.
