## Biography

Jack Mendelsohn (8 November 1926 – 25 January 2017) was an American writer and artist who worked across animation, comic strips, comic books and television. He co-wrote the screenplay for the Beatles animated feature *Yellow Submarine* (1968) with Lee Minoff, Al Brodax and Erich Segal.

Mendelsohn contributed to the earlier Beatles Saturday-morning cartoon series and later wrote for numerous television programmes, including episodes of *Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In*, *The Carol Burnett Show*, *Three's Company* and *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (1987). He received Emmy nominations for his television work and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Animation Writers Caucus of the Writers Guild in 2004, followed by the Bill Finger Award in 2014.

He also wrote and drew the comic strip *Jacky's Diary* (1959–1961) and contributed gag cartoons and stories to magazines and comic books early in his career.
