## Biography

Jack Purvis (13 July 1937 – 21 November 1997) was a British actor. He had dwarfism and was frequently cast in roles requiring performers of short stature. He appeared as Wally in the 1981 film *Time Bandits*.

Purvis played a different alien creature in each film of the original *Star Wars* trilogy: Chief Jawa in *Star Wars* (1977), Chief Ugnaught in *The Empire Strikes Back* (1980) and Teebo in *Return of the Jedi* (1983). He also appeared in three films directed by Terry Gilliam: *Time Bandits*, *Brazil* (1985) as Dr Chapman and *The Adventures of Baron Munchausen* (1988).

For twenty years he performed as part of the musical comedy double act the Mini-Tones with Kenny Baker. In 1991 Purvis became quadriplegic following a car repair accident. He died in 1997 at the age of 60.
