## Biography

Jack Rose (1911–1995) was an American screenwriter and producer. He began his career writing gags for Milton Berle and radio material for Bob Hope before moving into screenplays. His first credited screenplay was for the 1943 film *Road to Rio*.

Rose frequently collaborated with Melville Shavelson. In 1955 he produced the Bob Hope film *The Seven Little Foys*, which Shavelson directed and co-wrote. He later created and wrote episodes of the television sitcom *The Good Guys* (1968–1970). Among his later screenplays were *Houseboat* (1958), *A Touch of Class* (1973) and *The Great Muppet Caper* (1981).

Rose received three Academy Award nominations for screenwriting: for *The Seven Little Foys*, *Houseboat* and *A Touch of Class*.
