## Biography

Jack Whittingham (2 August 1910 – 3 July 1972) was a British playwright and screenwriter. He was educated at Charterhouse and Lincoln College, Oxford, worked in journalism, and joined Alexander Korda as a contract screenwriter in 1937. During the Second World War he served with an artillery regiment in Iceland.

Whittingham wrote numerous screenplays for British studios, including Ealing, with credits on *Q Planes* (1939), *Hunted* (1952), *The Divided Heart* (1954) and *The Birthday Present* (1957), which he also produced. He collaborated with Ian Fleming and Kevin McClory on an early James Bond screenplay that became the basis for the novel *Thunderball*. The 1965 film *Thunderball* credits an original screenplay by Whittingham and an original story by McClory, Whittingham and Fleming; he received story credit on the 1983 film *Never Say Never Again*.
