Jackie Cooper (1922–2011) was an American actor and director. Born John Cooper Jr. in Los Angeles, he began his career as a child actor in the late 1920s, appearing in the Our Gang series and earning an Academy Award nomination for best actor at the age of nine for the 1931 film *Skippy*.

As an adult, Cooper starred in television series including *The People's Choice* (1955–1958) and *Hennesey* (1959–1962). He later directed episodes of programmes such as *M*A*S*H* and received two Primetime Emmy Awards for directing. He is best known to film audiences for portraying Perry White, editor of the *Daily Planet*, in *Superman* (1978) and its three sequels through to *Superman IV: The Quest for Peace* (1987). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
