After graduating early from Williamsville South High School, he was accepted into the Juilliard School for dance but declined the offer to pursue an acting career, moving to Los Angeles.

Artist is best known for his role as Jake Puckerman on the Fox series *Glee* (2012–2015) and as Brandon Fletcher on the ABC series *Quantico* (2015–2016). His other television and film credits include *Blue Lagoon: The Awakening* (2012), *American Horror Story* (2016) and *Now Apocalypse* (2019).
