## Biography

Jacobo Árbenz Guzmán was a Guatemalan military officer and politician. He served as Minister of National Defence from 1944 to 1951 and as the 25th President of Guatemala from 1951 to 1954.

Árbenz was a central figure in the Guatemalan Revolution of 1944–1954. As president he enacted a programme of agrarian reform. He appears in archive footage as Self – President of Guatemala in the 2002 documentary *Bowling for Columbine*.
