## Biography

Jacques François (16 May 1920 – 25 November 2003) was a French actor. Born Henri Jacques Daniel Paul François in Paris, he appeared in more than 120 films and over 30 stage productions during a career spanning 1942 to 2002.

During the Second World War he served as a captain in the French First Army under General de Lattre. In 1948 he travelled to Hollywood hoping to play the lead in *Letter from an Unknown Woman*, but the part went to Louis Jourdan; he instead appeared as the playwright Jacques Pierre Barredout in *The Barkleys of Broadway* (1949) alongside Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers before returning to France. He was also known for regularly dubbing Gregory Peck into French.

François is credited as Pascal in *The Day of the Jackal* (1973). Among his other screen roles are appearances in *The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob* (1973), *Sorcerer* (1977), *The Toy* (1976) and *Santa Claus Is a Stinker* (1982).
