## Biography

Jacques Lagrange (1917–1995) was a French painter, engraver and screenwriter. He trained at the École nationale des arts décoratifs and the École des beaux-arts in Paris.

He is best known for his long collaboration with director Jacques Tati, contributing to the screenplays of *Monsieur Hulot's Holiday* (1953), *Mon Oncle* (1958), *PlayTime* (1967) and *Trafic* (1971), as well as set design on several of the films. He also created theatre designs, including for Jean Vilar, and produced large-scale public artworks.
