## Biography

James B. Clark was an American film editor and director. Born on 14 May 1908 in Stillwater, Minnesota, he graduated from Ohio University and began working in his family's restaurant business before moving to Hollywood in 1937. He joined 20th Century Fox the following year as an editor.

Clark edited numerous films at Fox until 1960, including *How Green Was My Valley* (1941), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, *An Affair to Remember* (1957) and *Leave Her to Heaven* (1945). From the mid-1950s he also directed feature films and television episodes, often focusing on youth-oriented stories and animal adventures. His directing credits include *Flipper* (1963), *Island of the Blue Dolphins* (1964) and episodes of *Batman* (1966–1967) and *Lassie*.

He died on 19 July 2000 in Woodland Hills, California.
