James Bell, also credited as James Harlee Bell, was an American actor who appeared in around 150 films and television productions between 1932 and 1964. Born in Suffolk, Virginia, he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in electrical engineering before making his Broadway debut in 1920. He worked steadily on stage through the early 1940s.

Bell's first film role was an uncredited part in *I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang* (1932). He is known for supporting roles in *Holiday Inn* (1942), *I Walked with a Zombie* (1943) as Dr. Maxwell, *The Spiral Staircase* (1946), *Marty* (1955) as Mr. Snyder, and *The Glenn Miller Story* (1954). His television credits include four guest appearances on *Perry Mason*.
