## Biography

James Edward Burton is an American guitarist. Born on 21 August 1939 in Dubberly, Louisiana, he began his professional career in the 1950s and became a leading session musician in Los Angeles.

Burton is best known for his work as lead guitarist and bandleader of Elvis Presley’s TCB Band from 1969 until Presley’s death in 1977. He appears as himself in the concert films *Elvis: That's the Way It Is* (1970), *Elvis on Tour* (1972) and *EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert* (2026). He has also performed and recorded with Ricky Nelson, The Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, among many others.

Burton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
