## Biography

James Duff is an American television writer, producer and director. Born Daryl Wayne Rogers on 3 September 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was adopted and raised in Texas. He studied theatre at Texas Tech University and began his career writing plays, including *The War at Home*, before moving into television.

Duff created the TNT series *The Closer* (2005–2012), on which he served as executive producer, writer and occasional director. He subsequently created its spin-off *Major Crimes* (2012–2018), again contributing as writer, director and producer. His other television credits include episodes of *Popular* (1999), *Felicity* (1998), *Star Trek: Enterprise* (2001), *Star Trek: Discovery* (2017) and *Star Trek: Picard* (2020).

Duff is married to actor Phillip P. Keene, who appeared in both *The Closer* and *Major Crimes*.
