## Biography

James Dyrenforth (31 January 1895 – 26 December 1973) was an American actor and songwriter. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he appeared in numerous British films and television productions from the 1950s onwards.

He is known for his role as Col. Archibald Gracie in *A Night to Remember* (1958). Other film credits include Mayor Hawkins in *Fiend Without a Face* (1958), the Garage Attendant in *The City of the Dead* (1960), Dr. Stevens in *Never Take Sweets from a Stranger* (1960), Frederick Beale Sr. in *Lolita* (1962), and roles in *The Girl Hunters* (1963) and *The Revolutionary* (1970). He also worked in television series such as *The Onedin Line*.

As a songwriter, he co-wrote the lyrics for 'A Garden in the Rain', which was recorded by artists including Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan. He contributed lyrics to the 1951 BBC television play *The Golden Year*.
