## Biography

James Komack (3 August 1924 – 24 December 1997) was an American television producer, director, screenwriter and actor. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and actor before moving into writing and directing for television in the early 1960s.

He directed episodes of series including *The Dick Van Dyke Show*, *Combat!*, *Get Smart*, *The Green Hornet* and the *Star Trek* episode 'A Piece of the Action' (1968). Komack created and produced *The Courtship of Eddie's Father* (1969–1972), *Chico and the Man* (1974–1978) and *Welcome Back, Kotter* (1975–1979), and directed the feature film *Porky's Revenge* (1985). He was credited with discovering John Travolta and Freddie Prinze. He received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his producing work.
