James Pickens Jr. is an American actor. Born on 26 October 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University in 1976. He began his professional career on stage in New York, appearing in productions including *A Raisin in the Sun* and *A Soldier's Play*.

Pickens is best known for portraying Dr Richard Webber in the ABC series *Grey's Anatomy* (2005–). He has also played Deputy Director Alvin Kersh in *The X-Files* and appeared in films including *Sleepers* (1996), *Traffic* (2000) and *42* (2013). He has received a Screen Actors Guild Award for ensemble cast and NAACP Image Awards.
