## Biography

James Malachi Rennie was a Canadian-American stage and film actor. Born on 18 April 1889 in Toronto, Ontario, he died on 31 July 1965 in New York City. He performed on Broadway from the late 1910s and appeared in Hollywood films from the silent era into the 1940s.

Rennie originated the role of Jay Gatsby in the 1926 Broadway production of *The Great Gatsby*. His film credits include *Illicit* (1931), *Skylark* (1941) and *Now, Voyager* (1942), in which he played Frank McIntyre. He became a US citizen in 1933.

He was married to actress Dorothy Gish from 1920 until their divorce in 1935, and later to Sara Eldon McConnell.
