## Biography

James Scott is a British filmmaker, writer and visual artist. Born in Wells in 1941, he is the son of painters William and Mary Scott. He studied painting and theatre design at the Slade School of Fine Art in London during the early 1960s.

Scott began directing films while a student and went on to make artist documentaries, experimental shorts and features. His short *A Shocking Accident* (1982) won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. He directed the *Inspector Morse* episode 'The Last Enemy' (1989) and the feature *Strike It Rich* (1990). Later in his career he returned to painting and printmaking.
