## Biography

James T. Heckert (1926–2008) was an American film and television editor. He began his career in the late 1950s as an assistant film editor on *Terror in a Texas Town* (1958) and later worked on feature films including *Take the Money and Run* (1969), *Valdez Is Coming* (1971) and *Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask* (1972).

Heckert edited two episodes of the miniseries *Roots* (1977), for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Film Editing in a Drama Series. His other television credits include five episodes of *Shōgun* (1980) and *Inside the Third Reich* (1982), the latter earning him a further Emmy nomination. He received a total of three Primetime Emmy nominations for film editing.
