James Tovell is a British director, producer, writer and occasional actor. He has directed documentaries including *Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb* (2020), episodes of *NOVA*, *I Am a Killer* (2018) and *Mysteries of the Terracotta Warriors* (2024).

His credits also include directing *Cradle to Grave* (2017) and the short film *The Lizard Boy* (2010). Earlier in his career he worked in a range of production roles and appeared as an actor, including as Terry in an episode of *The IT Crowd* (2008) and in *EastEnders*.
