James Van Der Beek was an American actor. He was born on 8 March 1977 in Cheshire, Connecticut, and died on 11 February 2026.

He was best known for portraying Dawson Leery in the television series *Dawson's Creek* (1998–2003). Van Der Beek appeared as Matt Bromley in the first season of the FX series *Pose* (2018). His other credits include *Scary Movie* (2000), *The Rules of Attraction* (2002) and episodes of *How I Met Your Mother* and *Criminal Minds*.
