## Biography

Janet Armstrong (born Janet Elizabeth Shearon) appeared as herself in archival footage in the 2019 documentary *Apollo 11*. She was the first wife of astronaut Neil Armstrong. They met at Purdue University, where she studied home economics, and married in 1956; the couple divorced in 1994.

Born on 23 March 1934 in Wilmette, Illinois, Armstrong had three children with Neil Armstrong: sons Rick (born 1957) and Mark (born 1963), and daughter Karen (1959–1961). She died on 21 June 2018 in West Chester, Ohio.
