Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she began her career as a journalist and author of the memoirs *Redefining Realness* (2014) and *Surpassing Certainty* (2017). She joined the writers’ room for the FX series *POSE* (2018–2021) and became the first transgender woman of colour hired as a writer for a television series. She also directed episodes of the show, including “Love Is the Message”. Mock later directed and wrote episodes of *Hollywood* (2020) and served as executive producer and writer on *DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story* (2022). She has acted in series including *Devs* (2020).
