## Biography

Jaroslav Kučera (also credited as Jaroslav Kucera) was a Czech cinematographer. He studied at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague from 1948 to 1952.

He worked on numerous films of the Czechoslovak New Wave, including *When the Cat Comes* (1963), *Diamonds of the Night* (1964), *Daisies* (1966), *Fruit of Paradise* (1970) and *Morgiana* (1972). He frequently collaborated with directors Vojtěch Jasný, Karel Kachyňa and his wife Věra Chytilová. Kučera received the Technical Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for *The Cassandra Cat* (1963).

He was married to director Věra Chytilová. Their daughter Tereza Kučerová became an art director and their son Štěpán Kučera a cinematographer. Kučera died in Prague on 11 January 1991.
