Jean-Michel Geneste is a French actor and prehistorian. He appeared as himself in the 2010 documentary *Cave of Forgotten Dreams*, directed by Werner Herzog, and played the role of a theatre tramp in the 1996 film *Beaumarchais the Scoundrel*.

Born on 23 May 1949, Geneste trained as a prehistorian and has held positions including director of the Centre national de la préhistoire and curator of the Grotte de Lascaux. He has contributed to scientific programmes on Palaeolithic sites such as the Grotte Chauvet and appeared as himself in other documentaries on prehistory, including episodes of *Miracle Planet* (2005).
