## Biography

Jean-Pierre Marielle was a French actor. He trained at the Conservatoire National d'Art Dramatique in Paris, where he became friends with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Rochefort, and graduated with a second prize in comedy in 1954. He began his career in theatre, appearing with the Comédie-Française and later with the Compagnie Grenier-Hussenot, and maintained a parallel stage career throughout his life, winning the Molière Award for Best Actor in 1994.

Marielle appeared in more than a hundred films from the late 1950s to the 2010s. His credits include *Let's Rob the Bank* (1964), *Coup de Torchon* (1981), *Ménage* (1986), *All the Mornings of the World* (1991), *Micmacs* (2009) and *The Dream Team* (2012). He played Jacques Saunière in *The Da Vinci Code* (2006). He was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 1992.

Marielle was married to actress Agathe Natanson from 2003 until his death. He died on 24 April 2019 in Saint-Cloud, France.
