## Biography

Jean Poiret, born Jean Poiré, was a French actor, director, screenwriter and playwright. He appeared as Jean-Loup Cottins in François Truffaut's *The Last Metro* (1980).

Poiret first rose to prominence in radio and cabaret in the early 1950s, forming a long-running partnership with Michel Serrault. He wrote and starred in the stage play *La Cage aux Folles* (1973), which ran for over 2,000 performances and inspired several film adaptations.

He wrote screenplays for films including *La Cage aux Folles* (1978) and *Happy Easter* (1984), and directed his only feature, *Le Zèbre* (1992). Poiret appeared in numerous other films, such as *Atlantic Wall* (1970), *Cop au Vin* (1985) and *Inspector Lavardin* (1986).
