Jean Van Hamme is a Belgian novelist and comic book writer. Born on 16 January 1939 in Brussels, he studied business administration at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. He worked as a journalist and in the marketing department of Philips before becoming a full-time writer in 1976.

Van Hamme wrote the screenplay for the film *Diva* (1981). He is known for creating and scripting the comic series *Thorgal* (from 1977, with Grzegorz Rosiński), *XIII* (from 1984, with William Vance) and *Largo Winch* (from 1990, with Philippe Francq), as well as the series *Les Maîtres de l'orge*.
