## Biography

Jean Yanne, also credited as Jean Roger Gouyé, was a French actor. He appeared as Roland Durand in Jean-Luc Godard's *Weekend* (1967) and as Paul Thomas, known as 'Popaul', in Claude Chabrol's *The Butcher* (1970).

Born in Les Lilas, Seine, France, Yanne began in cabaret and radio before entering film in the mid-1960s. He also worked as a screenwriter, director, producer and composer. In 1972 he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor for his performance in Maurice Pialat's *We Won't Grow Old Together*.
