## Biography

Jeffrey Lane (1954–2026) was an American television writer, producer and Broadway librettist. He began his career as a production assistant on the daytime soap *Ryan's Hope* before joining its writing staff. He later wrote for *Lou Grant* and served as a writer and story editor on *Cagney & Lacey* (1982).

Lane was a writer, executive producer and showrunner on the sitcom *Mad About You* (1992). His other television credits include *The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd*, *Bette* and the miniseries *The Murder of Mary Phagan*. He also wrote for the Tony Awards broadcasts and several American Film Institute tributes. On Broadway he wrote the book for the musical *Dirty Rotten Scoundrels* (2005), which received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical, and for *Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown*.

A Wesleyan University graduate, Lane won three Primetime Emmy Awards, a Daytime Emmy and two Peabody Awards.
