Jeffrey Lewis, also credited as Jeff Lewis, is an American screenwriter and novelist. He worked extensively on the NBC police drama *Hill Street Blues* (1981–1987) as a writer and producer, contributing to 84 episodes and serving as showrunner for its sixth season and co-showrunner (with David Milch) for the seventh. He received multiple Primetime Emmy nominations and two wins for the series, along with Writers Guild of America recognition.

Lewis trained as a lawyer and served as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan during the 1970s. He later created or co-created series including *Bay City Blues* (1983) and *Beverly Hills Buntz* (1987). Since the 2000s he has published several novels, notably the four volumes of The Meritocracy Quartet. He divides his time between Los Angeles and Castine, Maine.
