## Biography

Jeffrey W. Byrd is an American film and television director, producer and screenwriter. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he began his career as a protégé of Spike Lee, working on films including *Mo' Better Blues* (1990), *Jungle Fever* (1991) and *Malcolm X* (1992). He later directed more than one hundred music videos and numerous television commercials.

Byrd's feature credits include *Seventeen Again* (2000), *Book of Love: The Definitive Reason Why Men Are Dogs* (2002), *King's Ransom* (2005) and *A Beautiful Soul* (2012). In television he has directed episodes of series including *Soul Food*, *Switched at Birth*, *The Originals*, *Marvel's Runaways*, *Dynasty*, *Charmed*, *Black Lightning*, *The Flash*, *Star Trek: Discovery* and *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*. He has also served as a director and executive producer on *Yellowjackets* (2021–).

Byrd is co-chair of the Directors Guild of America's African American Steering Committee.
