## Fi1m on Jeon Do-yeon

> Jeon Do-yeon makes conflicting feelings seem natural, giving us time to understand a character without insisting that we approve. She is the strongest reason to stay with Lee Chang-dong’s patient, sometimes over-explanatory *Possible Love*.

In *Possible Love* (2026), Jeon Do-yeon lets Ahn Mi-ok feel several things at once, without separating them out for our convenience. We believe in the person before we start considering what she might tell us about marriage or money. Her performance moved us because the economic pressures never obscure the recognisable human wants beneath them. There is no demand that we approve of Mi-ok before being allowed to care about her. That generosity makes a long film worth the attention it asks.

An early role in *Happy End* (1999) established her willingness to play provocative, active women. *Secret Sunshine* (2007), directed by Lee Chang-dong, brought the international breakthrough through a performance built around grief and faith. The danger with that reputation is that emotional suffering starts to look like the only thing an actor can offer. Her subsequent work gives us good reasons not to make that mistake. *Kill Boksoon* (2023), her first major action lead, made the change of territory plain.

*Revolver* (2024) offers another useful example: a restrained performance that holds attention through long takes and spare scenes. In *Possible Love*, that ability to sustain interest matters to the whole ensemble. Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong help make its two marriages worth the time spent with them. Jeon gives the strongest performance, but her work does not make the others seem incidental. We want to understand how these people live with one another, and the actors give us enough to keep watching.

The reunion with Lee is worth the long evening, with a reservation about the writing. *Possible Love* sometimes spells out the connections between marriage and money after the actors have made them clear enough. We would rather have been left to work more of it out from the performances. Start with this ensemble, then follow her back to *Secret Sunshine* for the earlier collaboration.

## Biography

She has collaborated several times with director Lee Chang-dong, most recently playing Mi-ok in *Possible Love* (2026).
