## Biography

Jerry McNeely was an American television writer, producer and director. Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, he earned a B.A. from Southeast Missouri State College and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in speech from the University of Wisconsin, where he served on the faculty from 1956 until 1975 while writing for television. He began contributing scripts in the 1950s, including an episode of *Studio One*.

McNeely wrote episodes of series including *The Twilight Zone* (1959), *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* (1964), *The Streets of San Francisco* (1972) and *Dr. Kildare*. He created the legal drama *Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law* (1971–1974) and the teacher series *Lucas Tanner* (1974–1975). He received Emmy and Humanitas nominations for the 1977 television film *Something for Joey*. McNeely died in Tarzana, California, in 2014.
