## Biography

Jerzy Wójcik was a Polish cinematographer. He graduated from the cinematography department of the Łódź Film School in 1955 and began working in film in 1956 as an assistant to cameraman Jerzy Lipman. He served as a camera operator on Andrzej Wajda’s *Kanał* (1957) before making his feature debut as director of photography on Andrzej Munk’s *Eroica* (1958).

Wójcik is known for his work on *Ashes and Diamonds* (1958) for Wajda, *Mother Joan of the Angels* (1961), *Pharaoh* (1966) and *The Deluge* (1974). He taught cinematography at the University of Silesia in Katowice from 1981 to 1982 and subsequently at the Łódź Film School. He also directed the films *Lament* (1991) and *The Gateway of Europe* (1999), and wrote the book *Labirynt Światła* (2006). He received the Golden Camera 300 award for lifetime achievement.
