Jessica James was an American actress. Born in Los Angeles on 31 October 1929, she appeared in film, television and on stage over a career spanning several decades. She made her Broadway debut in the 1970 musical *Company* and performed in other productions including *Gemini*, *Little Me* and *42nd Street*.

On screen she is known for roles in *Diner* (1982) as Mrs. Simmons, *Easy Money* (1983) as a saleslady, *Spring Break* (1983) as Geri, *Power* (1986) as Helen and *Immediate Family* (1989) as Bessie. Television credits include appearances in *ALF* as Dorothy, *Murphy Brown* as Millicent Bane and *St. Elsewhere* as a dental assistant. James also worked as a singer and comedian in cabaret, summer stock and Las Vegas shows.

She died of breast cancer in Los Angeles on 7 May 1990, aged 60.
