James Farley was an American character actor. Born on 8 January 1882 in Waldron, Arkansas, he made his film debut in the 1916 silent film *Sins of Her Parent* and appeared in over 200 films and shorts during a career that spanned the silent and sound eras.

He is credited as General Thatcher in Buster Keaton's *The General* (1926). Farley often played uncredited supporting roles such as policemen, sheriffs and conductors. His final film, *The Man from Texas* (1948), was released after his death on 12 October 1947 in Pacoima, Los Angeles, California.
