## Biography

Jim Jacobs (born 7 October 1942) is an American actor, composer, lyricist and writer for the theatre, long associated with the Chicago theatre scene. He is best known for co-creating the book, music and lyrics of the musical *Grease* with Warren Casey.

The show, drawn largely from Jacobs's experiences at Taft High School in Chicago in the late 1950s, premiered in Chicago in 1971 and reached Broadway in 1972. It became one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history at the time. Jacobs and Casey received a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical. The 1978 film adaptation of *Grease* and the 1982 sequel *Grease 2* (for which they supplied characters) followed, along with the 2016 television production *Grease Live*.

Jacobs has also performed on Broadway and in regional theatre, and received an honorary doctorate from Columbia College Chicago in 2014.
