## Biography

Jimmy Gardner was a British television writer and creator. He studied on the screenwriting course at the Northern Film School in Leeds, graduating in 1992. His early work included the short film *Borderland* and a BAFTA-nominated short, *The Butterfly Man*.

Gardner began writing for television with episodes of *The Bill* in the mid-1990s. He contributed to the second series of *This Life* (1996) in 1997. He co-created and wrote for the BBC series *The Cops* (1998–2001, also known as *Stanton Blues*), which won BAFTA awards for best drama series in 1999 and 2000. He later co-created and wrote the Channel 4 series *Buried* (2003), which won a BAFTA in 2004, and created *Goldplated* (2006). Other credits include *Outlanders* (2007) and episodes of *Outlaws*, *Missing*, *Survivors*, *Inspector George Gently* and *Outcasts*.

Gardner died in London on 14 December 2010, aged 53.
