## Biography

Joan Stein Schimke, also credited as Joan Stein, is an American director and producer. She directed one episode of the television series *Law & Order* in 2006. Her short film *One Day Crossing* (2001), her Columbia University MFA thesis project, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

Schimke has directed and produced several other short films, including *Solidarity.* (2005), *The Necklace* (2013), *Saeed* (2019) and *Vacation Memories* (2023). She is an associate professor of communications at Adelphi University in New York, where she has taught since 2004 and organises a student film festival.
