João Atala is a Brazilian cinematographer born in Rio de Janeiro. He studied film in Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco, and has worked as a director of photography for over fifteen years.

He served as director of photography or head of cinematography on the documentaries *The Edge of Democracy* (2019) and *Apocalypse in the Tropics* (2025), both directed by Petra Costa, as well as on *Nosso Sonho* (2023). His other credits include feature films and shorts such as *Medusa* (2021) and *Homem Onça* (2021).
