Jody Gilbert (born Joe Ray Swartzburg) was an American character actress known for comedic roles in film, radio and television. She was born on 18 March 1916 in Fort Worth, Texas, studied voice and acting at Columbia University and graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse.

Gilbert began her career as a stage actress in the mid-1930s and appeared in films from 1937, often in supporting parts. Her work was interrupted for over a decade by the Hollywood blacklist following her testimony before HUAC. She returned to television in 1965 and to film in 1969 as the Large Woman in *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*. Other credits include *Ninotchka* (1939), *Sergeant York* (1941), *Batman* (1966) as Mrs Putney, and *Willard* (1971) as Charlotte Stassen. She died on 3 February 1979 in Los Angeles following a car accident.
