## Biography

Joe Gayton was an American writer, director and producer of film and television. He began his screenwriting career with *Uncommon Valor* (1983) and went on to write *Shout* (1991), *Bulletproof* (1996), *The Shepherd: Border Patrol* (2008) and *Faster* (2010). He also directed *Mind Ripper* (1995) and other features.

Gayton frequently collaborated with his brother Tony Gayton. Together they created the AMC series *Hell on Wheels* (2011–2016), on which Joe served as co-creator, writer, executive producer and director of one episode. He died on 14 May 2023.
