## Biography

Joe Grant was an American conceptual artist, storyboard artist and screenwriter who worked for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He began his career as a caricaturist and was hired by Disney in 1933 to design caricatures for the Mickey Mouse short *Mickey's Gala Premiere*. He headed the studio's Character Model Department and contributed to early features including character design on *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs* (1937).

Grant served as story director on *Fantasia* (1940) and co-wrote the screenplay for *Dumbo* (1941) with Dick Huemer. He left the studio in 1949 but returned in 1989 and contributed to later films such as *Beauty and the Beast* (1991), *Aladdin* (1992), *The Lion King* (1994), *Pocahontas* (1995) and *Mulan* (1998). He was named a Disney Legend in 1992 and died in 2005 while still working at the studio.
