## Biography

Joe Kaufmann was an American film producer. Born in Chicago in 1911, he attended the University of Chicago and began his career in the film industry as a broker and salesman before becoming head buyer for the Balaban & Katz theatre chain.

In 1944 he joined Monogram Pictures as a producer. He later formed his own company, Joseph Kaufman Productions, in 1949. His credits include associate producer on *It Happened on Fifth Avenue* (1947) and producer on *Pandora and the Flying Dutchman* (1951) and *Sudden Fear* (1952).

Other productions include *Long John Silver* (1955), *Another Time, Another Place* (1958) and *Black Tights* (1961). Kaufmann died in New York City in 1961.
