Joe Pennella is an American cinematographer and television director. He began his career as a documentary filmmaker in Denver, Colorado, after graduating from the University of Denver with a degree in mass communications.

Pennella worked as a second-unit director of photography on films including *Bad Boys* (1983) before concentrating on cinematography for television series such as *Life Goes On* (1989–1993) and *Monk* (2002). He made his directorial debut in 1997 with an episode of *Clueless* and has since directed episodes of *Party of Five* (1994), *Everwood* (2002), *Monk* (2002) and *The Neighbors* (2012).
