## Biography

Joel Fluellen (1907–1990) was an American actor. He appeared in films including *The Jackie Robinson Story* (1950), *Friendly Persuasion* (1956) as Enoch, *A Raisin in the Sun* (1961) as Bobo, *The Chase* (1966) as Lester Johnson and *The Great White Hope* (1970). His television credits include episodes of *Perry Mason*, *The Dick Van Dyke Show*, *Columbo* and *Hill Street Blues*.

After early work in Chicago and stage appearances in New York, Fluellen moved to Hollywood in the early 1940s. He was active in campaigns against racial discrimination in the film industry and received the first Paul Robeson Pioneer Award from the Black American Cinema Society in 1985.
