## Biography

Johan Valdemar Ankerstjerne (1886–1959) was a Danish cinematographer. He began his career in 1911 at Nordisk Film, where he became the preferred cameraman for director August Blom, working on numerous productions including *Atlantis* (1913).

Ankerstjerne later collaborated with Benjamin Christensen on films such as *Hævnens Nat* (1916) and *Häxan* (1922). He was regarded as Denmark's leading cinematographer in the 1910s and adopted innovative lighting techniques. In 1932 he founded the film laboratory Johan Ankerstjerne A/S, which became a major facility after merging with Nordisk Film Teknik.
