John A. Martinelli was an American film and television editor. He began his career in the ABC Film Department and served in the US Army in Alaska, where he edited for a local NBC affiliate. Early credits include assistant editing on *The Lawrence Welk Show* and episodes of series such as *Flipper* (1964) and *Columbo* (1971).

Martinelli edited numerous made-for-television movies and miniseries, including *The Legend of Lizzie Borden* (1975), *Murder in Texas* (1981), *Marco Polo* (1982) and *The Murder of Mary Phagan* (1988). He also worked as associate producer or producer on several projects. His work earned four Primetime Emmy Awards. He served five terms as president of the American Cinema Editors and received its Lifetime Achievement Award. He retired in 2000.
